How to Check Car Oil
To keep the moving parts of your engine working smoothly, your vehicle needs the proper amount of clean motor oil. To ensure that your vehicle has enough oil and that the oil is in good condition, you will need to check it periodically. Read on to learn more about how to check car oil from the service team at Volkswagen Of Oak Lawn near Chicago.
How to Check the Oil Level in Your Car
If you have a newer car, you may learn that it features an electronic oil monitor instead of the usual oil dipstick. Your owner’s manual should contain that information. If you have to check the oil manually, be sure to follow our handy guide below:
Park on a level surface and shut off the engine. It should be cold before you inspect the oil level.
Locate the dipstick by opening the hood.
Pull the dipstick out of the engine and wipe any oil from the end of it.
Re-insert the dipstick all the way back into its tube. Take it out again to check the oil level.
Dipsticks always have some way of indicating the proper oil level. If the top of your oil streak is between two marks or within a cross-hatched area, then you know you are ready to get back on the roads of Orland Park. If the oil is not filled to the proper level, it’s time to add more. Once again, consult your owner’s manual to see what kind of oil your vehicle requires. Take off the oil filler cap, then add oil a little at a time until the dipstick shows that it has been properly filled.
Why Check Your Car’s Oil Level?
To keep your car running at peak performance, motor oil is essential. You will want to have an oil change at least twice a year. This service may need to happen more often depending on your driving habits. The oil should be checked on a monthly basis. This ensures there are no leaks in the system and that you have enough oil for your vehicle to function properly. If, while on the roads of Countryside, you notice your car’s hood is hot to the touch or there is steam billowing out from under the hood, you will want to have your car looked at by a professional right away.
