AWD Performance vs. 4WD Performance

How do all-wheel drive vs. four-wheel drive compare? Performance-wise, both drivetrains offer enhanced traction on Orland Park roads. Unlike four-wheel drive, which needs to be switched on, all-wheel drive is always ready to go. When your vehicle hits rugged terrain, such as a patch of ice or runoff from a hill, there’s the potential for a delay with four-wheel drive — but not with 4MOTION® all-wheel drive.

How Does 4MOTION® All-Wheel Drive Work?

The 4MOTION® system builds off the standard all-wheel drive platform for more intuitive and responsive performance. Handling-wise, it feels very much like front-wheel drive but can spur into full AWD performance at a moment’s notice. In fact, 4MOTION® allocates about 90% of power to the front axle and about 10% to the rear. This gives you the benefit of added fuel economy when the rear axle isn’t fully engaged.

4MOTION® uses sensors to constantly monitor traction. If a tire starts losing traction, the system redistributes power as needed. No matter the road ahead, you can feel confident you’ll always have the best possible torque balance.
